Pain management education and training

APMA offers a range of education to the aged care, disability and other organizations in the not-for-profit sector.

APMA has developed the following training programs utilising its health and educational expertise. The training is interactive and designed to increase knowledge and problem solving skills in order to improve confidence and competence in using the practical techniques to assist your clients.  Pain management team

1. Practical Pain Management pdf(download flyer)

Suitable for:
Direct care staff that support older persons and people with a disability either in their own home or in residential aged care facilities. 
Half day (3 hours)
Poorly managed pain can result in an unnecessary and serious decline in quality of life for clients.
This training offers practical information and skills that direct care staff can utilise with clients, including to:
  • Explain chronic pain and its development
  • Identify the signs of pain causing distress
  • Develop an understanding of multifaceted pain management
  • Based on a case study, prepare an action plan which your organization may use to support a client

2. Positive thinking-Activity-Treatment (PAT)

Suitable for:
Clients living with persistent pain, their families and carers.
1.5 to 2 hours
PAT is a short, one-off session designed and delivered in-house to clients and carers and staff working directly with them. It is an interactive presentation aiming to increase awareness of persistent pain and improve confidence to use pain self-management techniques.

3. Persistent Pain and Practical Client Support

Suitable for:
Compensation industry or Disability sector staff
Half day (3 hours)
Persistent pain is increasingly prevalent in our community. This workshop addresses common problems faced by staff working with people with persistent pain: fear of re-injury and movement, difficulty communicating with GPs, unrealistic expectations of medication, low mood and poor motivation. Staff will be taken through a variety of techniques which will assist you to better engage with people with persistent pain to improve their function and re-engage with work and life.
