As the consumer voice for people living with persistent pain, APMA is committed to providing a viewpoint on behalf of consumers in relation to each application to list on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme which relates to pain medication. The Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) meets three times per year to consider a lengthy agenda of matters, including new and revised applications for the listing of medications on the PBS. The approach which APMA adopts in preparing its submission on each pain-related medication being considered by the PBAC is detailed here. Whenever a pain-related medication is on the agenda, APMA endeavors to make members aware of their right to submit their views and experiences, and to make a submission on behalf of all people living with pain.
